The Reason the DNC Has Concealed their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This decision by the DNC to suppress the publication of its own post-election analysis on the last presidential race is remarkable yet entirely predictable. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body often functions more like a publicity machine than a political organization devoted to building grassroots capacities capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture of Conformity

Hesitant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has continued within the influence of the previous administration throughout 2025. Releasing an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether party leaders actually want to encourage public discourse about the errors that paved the way for Donald Trump to win re-election. Yet, the DNC is proceeding as if there's nothing to understand following the tragic debacle of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: will this lead to victory? If not, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," an explanation that has been offered for withholding the analysis.

Major Failures an Analysis Would Have Explored

A genuine analysis worth its salt would confront key points of failure. These include:

  • Electoral Alienation: Losing of a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the Democratic ticket during the previous election proved pivotal during the tight 2024 election.
  • The Decision to Run: The determined insistence by a party leader to run again, and a last-minute withdrawal, is seen by some as robbing Democratic voters the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Losing Touch With Core Democratic Voters: While facing inflation, the campaign is criticized for accommodating elite contributors without successfully attempting to address the impact of corporate greed.
  • The Gaza Factor: The refusal to shift a policy position on a major international conflict allegedly caused alienating many voters, especially with youth voters, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Youth Backing: Extensive evidence shows a huge decrease of support for the party among the youth electorate.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

This refusal fits a recurring tendency to avoid uncomfortable facts. It echoes an episode in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to an incumbent's insistence on seeking another term until a disastrous public debate performance forced a change.

Concurrently, large majorities of Democratic voters were repeatedly informing researchers that they did not want the incumbent to seek re-election.

Financial Concerns

A substantive autopsy might also probe matters regarding where money went, such as the amounts were directed to insider consultants and ad buyers over the course of an electoral effort which expended a staggering war chest during the general election.

A Larger Problem

At its core, the suppression regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a deference to the existing power structure responsible for an unsuccessful presidential campaign. The signal to rank-and-file members – which includes countless small donors – appears to be that they cannot be trusted to know what party chiefs have learned from hundreds of interviews drawing from conversations with insiders.

An organization unwilling to publicly examine its own failings finds it difficult to break free from the pattern that ended up being so helpful to their opponents.
